Obituary of Janice Maclure Dexter

With great sadness, the family announces the death of Janice Maclure Dexter. She passed away with her family beside her, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on June 13th, 2014. Born in Saint John, on December 30, 1932, she was the only child of the late Bliss E Brown, and Marjorie M (Baillie) Brown. Jan went to Victoria School, and graduated from Saint John High School in 1949, she went to Art school at Saint John Vocational School, for 3 years. She worked doing display work for Calps, and at her father’s drug store. For many years she worked for the N.B. Craft Center, where she did the window displays and travelled around the province to collect items for the center. "She had a special love for the pottery". She managed Life Line from 1990 – 1992. She always loved nature, and was a member of The Canadian Nature Federation, and Saint John Naturalist Club. She spent 30 years doing Genealogical Research, and was a member of New Brunswick Genealogy Society. Jan had many passions over the years. She enjoyed jigsaw and word puzzles, hooking rugs, painting, travelling, dancing, and of course, genealogy. She loved to listen to CBC Radio, and watch PBS, British Comedies, and Jeopardy on TV. Her favourite movies were Harold and Maude, and The Red Violin. Most of all, she had a great sense of humour, and loved to laugh. In her younger years she met her soul mate, and was her life-long best friend – Bette (Atkinson) Hall. They sailed to England in 1953, and travelled through Europe for several months. This was the highlight of Jan`s life. They kept a special bond for the rest of their lives, sharing many special times, and laughs together. She is survived by her children, Karl (Beth) Dexter, Saint John; Mark (Cindy) Dexter, Saint John; Lynn (Mitchell) Dickie, Pennfield; Lee Dexter, Saint John; grandchildren Meggie, Eric, Jamie, Jeffery; great grandchildren Giovanni, Armanni, Sahara and Lily.
