Obituary of Benoit Joseph Richard

RICHARD, BENOIT (BEN) … Benoit Joseph (Ben) Richard of Saint John, husband of Judy (Boyle) Richard, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Quebec on November 7, 1929, he was a son of the late William and Marie-Ann (Gionet) Richard. Ben was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a medic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Branch 64 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and was District Sargeant at Arms. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and especially his grandchildren, and was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan. In addition to his wife, Ben is survived by his sons Andrew, Benoit, William (Joey), Claude, Dexter, Scottie, Robert, and Vincent; daughters Rosemarie, Brenda, Rosalita, and Joann; brothers Guy Richard (Joan) of Saint John, and Alex Richard (Gail) of Quispamsis; sisters Mabel McGraw (Ernie) of Saint John, Jeanette Collett of Hampton, Yvonne McGraw (Art) of French Village, and Ann Marie Byers (Steve) of Alberta; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by a brother, Rosaire. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Church, 51 Clarendon Street. Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Norton. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
