Obituary of Roger Young

Roger Young of Lower Norton, husband of Margot (Hoehle) Young, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a valiant battle with cancer. Roger was born at Saint John on May 9, 1945, and served 8 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with NATO, mostly in Germany. Following his discharge from the Forces, Roger owned and operated his own garage in Lower Norton. Roger had a great passion for serving others; he loved the Veterans and their families, and volunteered his time at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing and with the Royal Canadian Legion, as well as 2681 Squadron of the Air Cadets. He was a good singer, and would sing for the Veterans, either karaoke or with the quartet “Vets and Friends”. Roger and his wife were also Foster Parents for twelve years. In addition to his wife of 40 years, Roger is survived by two sons, Clifford Kenneth Young (Tammie) and James Edward Young (Amanda), both of Lower Norton; his grandchildren, Matthew (Natalie), Michael, Luke, and Makayla and great-grandchild Aiden; brothers Gregory Peck (Barbara) of Saint John, Gary Peck (Ruby) of Barnesville, and Brian Peck (Evelyn) of Saint John; his uncle, Charles Young of Bathurst; and several nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Young Peck. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM from Brenan’s Chapel. A Tribute to a Veteran service will be held on Monday at 7:00 PM from the funeral home. For those who wish, remembrances to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
