Obituary of Donald Chesley Lordon

Donald “Chesley” Lordon of Saint John, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bathurst on October 6, 1925, he was a son of the late Frank and Adelaide (Hachey) Lordon. Chesley was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Katherine Olivia (Foster) Lordon; his son and best friend, Dr. Anthony Lordon; and an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Chesley is survived by his daughter, Ann Burnett (Sean Howard) of Saint John; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lordon of Quispamsis; grandchildren Stephanie Butler (Rob), Michael Burnett, Katie Lordon (Joel Thompson), Leah Lordon, and Ben Lordon; sisters Dolly Peddle of Saint John, Marjorie Leger (Norbert) of Saint John, and Sr. Emily Lordon of Digby, NS; several nieces and nephews; and by his special friend, Lorraine Stark. Chesley was predeceased by brothers Perley and Clifford Lordon; sisters Mary Matthews, Agnes Power, and Jean Gavel; and by a nephew, David Leger. Chesley was employed with the Port of Saint John for 39 years, retiring as Pier Superintendent. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in Italy and Holland with the Carleton York Regiment. He was a member of the Cathedral Parish, as well as the Royal Order of Wharf Rats. A tireless community volunteer, Chesley spent many years working for the Port Christmas Families Campaign, as well as many other organizations. In his spare time, he enjoyed flower gardening, and spent many lunches in the company of his many friends. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, December 13, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:05 PM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Romero House, Rocmaura Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
