Obituary of James Frederick Mortimer

Mortimer, James Frederick … The family regretfully announces the passing of James Frederick Mortimer of Rothesay, NB, husband of the late Margaret “Peggy” “Maggie” Anne (Gairdner) Mortimer, which occurred on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at his residence. Born in Rothesay, NB on July 9, 1921, a son of the late Frederick C. and Mary M. (MacLean) Mortimer. James was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay, Past President of the RCL, Rothesay Branch, member of the Union Club and a member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club for over 60 years. A veteran of World War II where he had served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons as a Captain. Beloved father and grandfather to Jim (Joyce) Mortimer of Darlings Island, NB and Jayne Mortimer of Kingston, NB; his six grandchildren, Jamie (Teresa) Kindred, Aisha Kindred, Will (Crystal) Mortimer, Sara (Jon) Grinton, Alexandra (Vincent Martin) Mortimer and Stefanie Mortimer; ten great-grandchildren; also survived by two sisters, Joan Mortimer O’Blenis of Halifax, NS and Betty Coleman of Sydney Australia; sister-in-law, Ellen Todd of Kitchener, ON; one brother-in-law, Jack Cantelon of Victoria, BC; nieces and nephew, Tara O’Blenis Wilson (David), Kevin O’Blenis (Cara), Mary Hodges (David) and Sally McGowan. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, “Maggie” on September 28, 2009; a daughter, Kathleen “Kate” Anne Mortimer (May 24, 1997). Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay, NB on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm. A private family interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.
