Obituary of Edith Ardie Northrup

The death of Edith Ardie Northrup of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Ross Northrup, occurred on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Center Napan, NB on June 25, 1933 she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Harriet (Howland) MacKnight. Edith graduated on the Deans List from St. Thomas University in 1987 with a Masters in Education. She began her career at South Bay School, and was a supply teacher while raising her young children. Edith was a teacher in several schools around the Saint John area including Barnhill, Forest Hills, and Centennial Schools and finished her career at New Albert School. Edith also worked as a social worker in the mid 1970’s in its early inception. She was involved in the Jane Henderson group at her church. Edith also volunteered with LifeLine. She was a much loved mother and grandmother, she was always involved in her grandchildren’s activities, and they were the apple of her eye. She is survived by her four children, Orin W. Northrup of Alberta; Mark A. Northrup (Karen) of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB; E. Ann Steeves (Kirk) of Saint John, and Mary E. Northrup of Saint John; four grandchildren, Breanna Savoie; Wesley Savoie, Ross Northrup, and Madeline Steeves; one sister, A. Marilyn MacKnight; one brother, Alden MacKnight (Marjorie) and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from Brenan’s Chapel at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date.
