Obituary of Austin L. Burke

After a period of failing health, the death of Junior Burke occurred on Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on July 2, 1932 at Saint John to the late Austin Sr. and Gertrude (Jenkins) Burke. Junior worked for the Telegraph Journal for over 25 years. He loved old time music, kitchen parties, playing his guitar and shooting darts. He is survived by seven sons: Mike (Aura) of Alberta, Wayne (Ellen), Bruce (Lori) and Peter (Gordon) all of Saint John, Gilbert (Cathy) and Paul (Debbie) of Titusville and Stephen (Marena) of PEI; two daughters: Carol Ann Sonier (Allan) and Susan Burke (Gerry Leblanc) both of Saint John; sister, Theresa McNeil (Danny) of Saint John; three brothers in-law, David Conroy of Nova Scotia, Danny (Donna) London of Ontario, Dennis (Evelyn) London of Chipman, sister in-law, Lou London of Ontario; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; special caregivers: Knoll Meehan and Linda Fox and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Junior was predeceased by Doreen (London) Burke; son, Richard; sisters: Shirley, Rose and Barb; brother, Pat and a brother in-law, Sonny. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:30 PM in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Westmorland Road (across from CAA). For those who wish, remembrances to ALS Society of New Brunswick or the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
