Obituary of Alexander R. Hermack

The death of Alexander "Sonny" Hermack, of Saint John, husband of Veronica (MacDonald) Hermack, occurred on January 1, 2010 at his residence. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on March 31, 1930, he was a son of the late Fred and Mary (Tomiczek) Hermack.. Sonny served with the Queen’s Own Rifles as a Peacemaker in Korea. He was employed as a mechanic for Canadian Tire in Toronto before moving back to Glace Bay to work at DEVCO, Coal Mines for 29 years before his retirement in 1995. Besides his wife, Veronica, of 51 years; he is survived by his son, Keith (Yolanda) of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; brother, Frederick (Alice) of Dorset, ON; sister, Mary Turnbull (Billy) of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Samantha, Brandon and Ryan, as well as several nieces and nephews, and his special companion, his dog, Pippin. Sonny was predeceased by his brother, Stephen and his sister, Frances. He will be resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Monday from 7 … 9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will take place Monday evening at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
