Obituary of Catherine Theresa Blizzard

The death of Catherine T. Blizzard of 219 Ellerdale Street, Saint John, and formerly of Loch Lomond, wife of the late Fred Blizzard, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, September 21, 2009. Born at Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Pauline (McGowan) Donovan. Kaye had been employed for many years as a medical secretary, having worked with Dr. Wanamaker and Dr. Isa. She was very involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Association and received the Breath of Life Award, the highest honour for a volunteer from Cystic Fibrosis, and she was a provincial director and local executive member of the Cystic Fibrosis Association. Kaye was the valedictorian of St. Vincent’s High School, class of 1938. She was president and secretary of Loch Lomond Home and School Association, and was secretary of the Silver Links Seniors Club, as well as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the 23rd Regiment, and a member of St. Vincent’s Alumni Association. Kaye is survived by four daughters; M. Jo-Anne Langlais, M. Suzanne Coughlan (Harold), P. Kathleen Hackett (John) and Janet E. Daley (Terry) all of Saint John; fifteen grandchildren, Edward, Patrick, Andrea, Jamie, Michael, David, Patti, Bev, Joe, Terry, Ann, Christine, Paula, Harold and David; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by sons, Johnny, Paul and Michael Blizzard; one daughter Colleen; sister, Mary Prescott and an infant brother, William. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 3-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 from St. Joseph’s Church, Loch Lomond. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Cystic Fibrosis Association would be appreciated by the family.
