Obituary of Gertrude Montgomery Brown

Brown, Gertrude M. ? The death of Gertrude Montgomery (Burnett) Brown, formerly of Belmont, NB, wife of the late Reginald Brown, occurred on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in East Riverside, NB, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Alice (Appleby) Burnett. Gertrude had lived in East Riverside most of her life, then moved to Belmont in 1980. She was involved in a wide variety of volunteer work. She enjoyed writing and published many short stories. For many years she was a member of the Big Sister Association of Saint John, NB, the Soroptimist Club and the Local Council of Women. She was a former member of the Church of St. James the Less, Renforth, NB, and their Altar Guild. Later she attended St. Anne's Church, Belmont, NB, was a former member of the Auxiliary of St. John and St. Stephen Church Home and active in the volunteer work at the home. Gertrude is survived by one son: James (Jim) (Trudy) Brown of Belmont, NB; three step-sons: Reginald D. (Florence) of Belmont, NB; Ronald F. of Saint John, NB; Douglas F. (Patricia) of St. Andrews, NB; one sister: Jean Wrigley of St. Maartin, French West Indies; two grandchildren: Jim and Jocelyn, five step-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren, two nieces: Mary Wrigley and Noreen Gilliland, one nephew Gordon C. Burnett. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by one daughter, Marjorie Heather and one brother, Gordon Burnett Sr. At Gertrude's request there will be no funeral home visiting. A graveside service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery on Saturday April 30, 2005 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424).
