Obituary of Leta Mildred McCluskey

It is with heavy hearts the family of Leta Mildred (Shortliffe) McCluskey, wife of the late Leonard McCluskey, announce her peaceful passing, which occurred at her residence in Pickering, ON on Saturday, August 27, 2016, surrounded by family. Born in South Range, NS on March 3, 1917 she was a daughter of the late Walton and Rhoda Mae (Sabean) Shortliffe. Leta was in her 100th year, and was blessed with a healthy, long life, free of illness, passing of only natural causes. She was a former member of Douglas Avenue Christian Church, the Ladies Auxillary and the 50+ club of the church. She was also a member of Friendly Fellowship of Main Street Baptist Church, and served as a member on the church chair for years, first at Coburg St. Christian Church then at Douglas Avenue Christian Church. Leta will be greatly missed by her daughter Sandra Sproule, of Pickering, ON; son Douglas McCluskey, of Pickering, ON; four grandchildren, Dana, Colleen and Krista Sproule and Shawn Hebert; five great grandsons, Tristan, Cole, Roxton, Lucas and Wylder; and one great grand daughter Sydney. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Norman Wayne McCluskey, brothers Russell and Henry, and twin sisters Hilda and Melda. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 12:00 PM, with a reception to follow in Brenan’s Reception Centre. Interment will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Leta may be made to Douglas Avenue Christian Church, Maritime Christian College or a charity of the donor’s choice.
