Obituary of Douglas John Ballard

The family of Douglas John Ballard announces his passing which occurred on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on September 16, 1944 to the late John and Mary (Daley) Ballard. Doug started his career as a Marine Engineer as a young man having worked for Atlantic Towing, and ending his career on the Princess of Acadia. He spent most of his time on the water, whether at work or boating on the Saint John River in one of the many boats he’s owned over the years. Doug enjoyed being a member of the Saint John Power Boat Club and his time spent at his camp in Chapel Grove. Doug will be missed by his family, his siblings: Doreen Arthur, Raymond Ballard of Goulds, NL, Pat Engalls, Kevin Ballard, Joe (Therese) Ballard all of Venice, FL and Kris (Raymonde) Ballard of Yellowknife, NT, his nephew Kory (Tracey) Arthur, great nephews Duncan and Matthew Arthur all of Lee, NH, his aunt Rita McCambridge, many other nieces, nephews and members of his extended family as well as long-time friends George and Mary Kane Doug is predeceased by his parents. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Keeping with Doug’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will take place at St. Bridget’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
