Obituary of Audrey Phyllis Corkum

Audrey (McKay) Corkum passed from this life into the presence of her Lord on January 28, 2016. Born June 17, 1920 daughter of the late George and Eva (Floyd) McKay, Audrey married Captain Mark Corkum January 1940. Her cherished husband predeceased her in 1956. The youngest of eight children, she was the last surviving member of her family; Sisters: Evangeline Crowe, Georgia McKay, Florence Campbell, Marjorie Huppe, Ruby Shuve, Helena Hill and one brother Lloyd McKay. Audrey is survived by and will be missed by her three loving children: Paul Corkum (Nadja), Ottawa ON, Judy Wallace (Tom) of Cumberland Bay and David Corkum (Shirley) of Quispamsis. She was a special grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Brent Corkum of BC, Brenda Woods of BC, Ruth Henshaw of ON. Rebecca Fernett of SC, USA, Timothy Wallace of Munich, Germany, Elisabeth Frost of NS, Cheryl van Reenen of ON, Mark Corkum of NB, Kathryn Britten of NB, Sarah Corkum of NB, Beth Corkum of NS, and 13 great grandchildren. Audrey resided in Saint John all her life. An active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Audrey was a long standing Sunday school and Bible teacher, choir member and organist. She was a lifetime member of the WMS. She was employed by the Atlantic Baptist Convention in their Bookroom, where her knowledge of Bible and book content made her valued by many. With declining health she was capably cared for by Evelyn Thibodeau in her own home until moving to Bayview Special Care Home in Kars, NB in 2008. She passed away peacefully there after a lengthy illness. Special thanks and acknowledgements to Evelyn Thibodeau whose love and caring allowed Audrey to stay in her own home for several additional years; and to the capable and kind staff of Bayview Special Care Home who made her declining years comfortable and peaceful. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Alzhemier Society, Gideons International would be appreciated by the family.
