Obituary of Paul Geoffrey Hodd

Paul Geoffrey Hodd of Saint John, husband of Patricia M. (Smith) Hodd, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his residence. Born at Saint John on December 6, 1952, he was a son of the late Louis and Dorothy (Silverberg) Hodd. Paul owned and operated his own painting business for a number of years, and also fished for lobster off Grand Manan for the past few years. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and the New Brunswick Community College, where he studied painting, heavy equipment operation, and electronic technology. He was a member of the Grand Manan Fisherman’s Association, and in his spare time enjoyed angling and helping his neighbours. Paul always put others before himself, and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it; he was always there for his family and his friends, but his greatest joy came from being on Wood Island, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by daughters Cindy Hamilton-Urquhart (Steve) of Calgary, AB, and Kelly Saunders (Tom) of Quispamsis; a son, Geoffrey Hodd of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren Stephen, Frank, Josh, Caleb, and Christopher; a great granddaughter, Leah; sisters Nancy Jones (Steven) of Hampton, Kristine Erb (Richard Thibodeau) of Hampton, and Karen Hodd (Paul Chamberlain) of Saint John; a brother-in-law, Dale Smith (Brenda) and their daughter Stacie of Saint John; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by brothers Michael, Brian, and Louis; and by a nephew, Louis. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at a later date in the Wood Island Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
