Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Titus

The death of Jean Elizabeth (Kingston) Titus of Saint John West, wife of Raymond H. G. Titus, occurred on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Rocmaura Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John on January 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alexa (Carter) Kingston. Jean was a life long resident of Saint John. She was a member of Portland United Church all of her life, where she taught in the Primary Department and was involved in both the Junior and Senior Choirs. Jean also served as an Elder, and was a Life Member of the United Church Women. Jean worked with the Canadian Pacific Railway for 12 years, and then at Havelock School for 19 years, retiring in 1988. In her spare time, Jean loved reading and cooking, especially at Christmas time, when her family and friends would enjoy her strawberry squares and dark fruit cake. In addition to her husband of 58 years, Jean is survived by a daughter, Susan Martin (Paul) of Hampton; two grandchildren, Sarah and Craig Martin, both of Hampton; two sisters, Nancy Evans (Leon) and Cynthia McFarlane (Norm); two brothers, Ken Kingston (Connie) and Walter Kingston (Marjorie), all of Saint John; sisters-in-law Faith Kingston and Lois Kingston, and brother-in-law Wilfred Turner, also of Saint John; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jean was predeceased by brothers John, Malcolm, and Reginald Kingston; and by sisters Helen Turner, Elsie Kingston, and Phyllis Kane (the late Raymond "Buzz" Kane). Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Rocmaura Foundation, the Alzheimer Society, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
