Obituary of Muriel Elsie Burnham

BURNHAM, Muriel Elsie (McKenzie) December 6, 1921 – October 17, 2011 Muriel died peacefully in the Garden Suite palliative care unit at the Loch Lomond Villa surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Beulah McKenzie of Hampton. Muriel was born in Alsask, Saskatchewan and grew up in Saint John and Hampton, N.B. She was an active, long-time member of the congregation of St. Luke’s Anglican Church. She was a licensed Lay Reader in the Parish of Portland and had a special ministry with people who were ill or dying. Muriel was a lifetime member of Hospice Saint John and Sussex and a pastoral care visitor at the Regional and St. Joseph’s hospitals. She was a volunteer in many other church and community organizations. Muriel was a loving, caring wife and mother who enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her 30 years with Sears and the many people she met through her employment. Muriel is survived by three daughters and one son: Elizabeth (Betty) McLennan of Calgary, Shirley Banks (Dave) of Saint John, Nancy Georgina (Bill) of Halifax, and Jim Burnham (Judy) of Saint John, brother Jim McKenzie (Marilyn) of Hampton, fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Burnham and her sisters Joan Irwin and Evelyn Burnham. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 369 Main Street on Friday at 1:00 pm.
