Obituary of Ronald William Cobbett

Ronald William Cobbett of Saint John, husband of Marjorie “Dolly” J. (Marr) Cobbett, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 27, 2010 at his residence. Born at Saint John on November 25, 1928, he was a son of the late Willard and Margaret (Miller) Cobbett. Ron worked as a truck driver most of his working life, finishing his career with Lafarge. He was a member of the Buffalo Club, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cribbage, as well as listening to the old time Country music. He faithfully watched hockey on television, and was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition to his wife of nearly 58 years, Ron is survived by his children, Diane Schrader (Billy) of Saint John, Sandra Steeves (David) of Sussex, Ronald Cobbett (Geraldine) of Saint John, Allen Cobbett (Denise) of Quispamsis, Dawn Shephard (Glen) of Saint John, Susan Cobbett (Gary) of Saint John, and Sharon Scott (Paul) of Summerville; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers Billy of Alberta, Bobby of Texas, Edward “Teddy” (Joan) of Oshawa, ON, Gordon (Betty) of Bancroft, ON, Douglas, Richard “Butch”, and Blair (Margaret), all of Oshawa, ON, and Frank (Eleanor) of Cambridge-Narrows, NB; sisters Dorothy “Dot” Wood (John) of Red Deer, AB, Joan Martin of Victoria, BC, Margaret Richardson (Jim) of Kingston, ON, and Elizabeth “Betsy” Jones (Bobby) of Oshawa, ON; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by a sister, Mitchie. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
