Obituary of Douglas Earle Hewey
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and one of the Maritimes all time great hockey players Douglas "Crow" Hewey after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara, and will sadly be missed by sons, Douglas, David (Starr), Rick, grandchildren, Derek (Cassandra), Jacqueline King (Aaron), Mikel, Timothy (Fflyr), Kimberly, Kennedy. Great-grandchildren Jaden, Sawyer, Piper, Benjamin, Avery, Tyler and special girls Becca and Brynn, sister Shirley (Ned), brothers Malcolm (Eleanor), Kenneth "Flip" (Pam), Raymond (Sherry), Murray and several nieces and nephews, close friend Bruce Latham. Besides his parents Avery and Selena he was predeceased by brothers Charlie and Allan, sisters Margie, Dolly, Audrey and Kay. He was a former member of local 131 insulators union. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and spending time with his grandchildren in the country. From the early years in the old forum to playing in the Beaverbrook rink, he enjoyed the game of hockey and the friends he met along the way. Some of his hockey highlights include playing on three Maritime Senior hockey championship teams. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 2-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital stem-cell research and the Palliative Care Unit in memory of Douglas "Crow" Hewey.
