Obituary of Glidden Josh Langford

Glidden Josh Langford of Saint John, husband of Bernice Isabel (Palmer) Langford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011 with his family by his side. Born at Weymouth Falls, Nova Scotia on November 1, 1923, he was a son of the late Leaman Boyd and Fannie Bernetti (Cromwell) Langford. Glidden was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in both Kingston, Ontario and Gagetown, New Brunswick. While serving his country, Glidden became visually impaired, and subsequently worked as a Security Guard at the DVA Hospital in Lancaster. Glidden always had a positive outlook, always looking on the bright side of life. He enjoyed music and dancing, and especially loved the company of family and friends, and was an avid fan of the Saint John Sea Dogs. Glidden was a long time member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church. In addition to his wife, Glidden is survived by a son, Dr. Kevin Langford (Holly Seale) of Saint John; step-children Nola Hatton of New York, John Palmer (Christine) of Pennsylvania, Brenda Peters of Saint John, Eugene Radcliffe (Heather) of Saint John, Richard Palmer of Saint John; Dolores Durr of Saint John, Rae Alberts (Billy) of Saint John, and Wendy Taliafero of New York; a sister, Eva Barton of Halifax; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Glidden was predeceased by his first wife, Vesta Nina (Jarvis) Langford; a son, Keith Langford; brothers Charles, Kenneth, Austin, James, and Fenton; and sisters Hilda Cromwell, Josie Bright, and Ada Cromwell. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the fifth floor and the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the kindness and care shown to Glidden during his stay there. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the CNIB or the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
