Obituary of Helen Catherine Cromwell

Helen Catherine Cromwell of Quispamsis, wife of the late George Cromwell, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. Born at Golden Grove on July 18, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Mary (Tait) McCormick. Helen worked as a fur finisher for Eastern Furriers for 27 years, and had worked for Magee Furriers for 11 years previously. She was always very active, being an associate member of the Kennebecasis Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of the Kennebecasis Seniors in Rothesay, and bowled every Monday with the Kennebecasis Bowling League. She enjoyed playing bingo and attending suppers at the Legion and other places. Helen was a member of St. Mark’s Parish in Quispamsis, and a former member of St. Peter’s Parish, where she was involved in the Catholic Women’s League. Helen is survived by her children, Dawn Arthurs (Joseph) of Saint John, Robert Knodell (Audrey) of Quispamsis, and David Knodell (Betty) of Bedford, NS; a step-daughter, Barbara Keirstead (Pete) of Rothesay; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by sisters Mary McCormick and Eileen Keane; and by brothers John McCormick, Joe McCormick, and Herbert McCormick. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mark’s Church, Quispamsis, on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
