Obituary of Mary Jane Landry
After a period of failing health, Mary Landry (MacDougall), wife of the late Valma Landry, eldest daughter of the late Edward and Margaret MacDougall passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 13, 2011. Born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on April 1, 1922, she was in her 90th year. Mary was employed in the hospitality industry for several years. She worked at the White House Lodge, Riviera, and Reversing Falls restaurants. She was a devout Catholic and her strong faith was a great comfort to her in her lifetime. Mary was a member of the North Seniors Group in Millidgeville, CWL at St. Peter’s Church, and belonged to St. Pius X Parish. She was a very caring mother who was always there for her children, and always encouraged them to do well. Her grandchildren were a great joy to her and family was always a priority. Mary was a true Cape Bretoner and always had a cup of tea ready for anybody who entered her home. Mary is survived by her daughters, Valerie Landry and Marlene Garland (Eric), both of Saint John; son, Joseph "Joe" Landry (Kathy Beckingham) of Saint John; grandchildren Zachary Garland and Benjamin Garland of Saint John; great-grandchildren Bella and Darius of Saint John; sisters, Margaret MacDougall of Saint John, Pauline Bernardo of Brampton, ON, Theresa Bremner (Donald) of Surrey, BC; special sister-in-law, Betty MacDougall of Saint John; several nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Audrey Davidson. Besides her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and James; sisters, Veronica Erickson and Bernadette Lessard; and son, James. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Diane Bloom, Leah Murray, the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and to Mary’s caregivers, Barb Stephens and Kathy Buckingham for all of the love and support that was extended to Mary during her time of illness. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Pius X Church on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to St. Pius X CWL, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
