Obituary of Lila Ernestine Parker

PARKER, Lila Ernestine (Howe) Lila Parker, widow of Arthur Craig Parker, passed away at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home on November 28, 2011, just short of her 100th birthday. Born in Lauvina, Sunbury County, NB, on January 24, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Manzer and Mary Elizabeth (Boone) Howe. She is survived by daughter Shirley (Raymond) Kraglund of Campbellton, son Craig (Linda Beers) of Grand Bay-Westfield, daughter Karen Farthing of Saint John, five grandchildren; Kimberly (Deon) Hancock, Wendy (Donald) Gauthier, Tracy Parker, Sheri (Rodney) Brown, and David (Kelly Martin) Parker, seven great-grandchildren; Danielle and Aaron Hancock, Katelyn Parker, Morgan Gauthier, Ava and Mason Brown and Lila Parker, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. After graduation from Sunbury High School in Fredericton Junction in 1933, Lila came to Westfield, where she resided for over 60 years. She was a member of the Westfield Elementary School Board of Trustees for several years, a volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross and Canadian Cancer Society for over 30 years, an avid quilter, knitter and card player. She especially loved working with draft horses. As a member of the Westfield United Church, she was an elder and Presbytery/Conference delegate for many years. After her husband’s death, Lila worked as a hostess at the Westfield Golf and Country Club, and as a waitress at the Fairport and Keddy’s. In 1994, Lila moved to Hillcrest Village Seniors Complex, where she resided until going to St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home in 2007. Besides her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her brother Charles, sister-in-law Eloise Howe, and son-in-law John Farthing. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery.
