Obituary of Velma Olive Beyea

Velma Olive Beyea of Saint John, wife of the late James Pettingell Beyea, passed away on Thursday, March 03, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Perry’s Point on the Kingston Peninsula on January 15, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Roy Douglas and Myrtle Velma (Bostwick) Wetmore. Velma received her early education in Kingston, being a graduate of MacDonald Consolidated School. She furthered her education at Modern Business College and worked for a time in the office at McAvity’s until she became a stay-at-home Mother. She was a long time member and supporter of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, and in her spare time liked to cook, sew and knit for her family who often received the fruits of her labour. Velma loved her family dearly; she was a very selfless person who lived her Christian values daily, and whose huge heart and wonderful smile were a continuous source of strength for her family. Velma is survived by her daughter, Lynda Shaw (David) of Rothesay; her daughter-in-law, Jane Beyea of Saint John; grandchildren Kimberly Armstrong (Greg) of Ottawa, Tracey LeRoy (Bill) of Rothesay, Craig Shaw (Dr. Michelle) of Quispamsis, Dr. Steven Beyea (Martha) of Halifax, Janet Derosiers (Marc) of Kanata, Emily Beyea of Saint John, and Caroline Beyea of Saint John; great grandchildren Ella, William, and Jessica LeRoy of Rothesay, Connor, Carter, and Parker Armstrong of Ottawa, Aaron and Liam Derosiers of Kanata, and Benjamin and Brooke Shaw of Quispamsis; a sister, Donna Robertson of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. Velma was predeceased by her husband of 63 years in 2006; her son, Donald Beyea in 2008; brothers Cortland and Guy Wetmore; and by a sister, Helen Wetmore. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Main Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to St. Luke’s Anglican Church or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com
