Obituary of Dorothy H. Hollway

After a courageous battle with cancer, Dorothy passed away at her home in Rothesay on February 17, 2012, surrounded by her family and dogs. She is the dearly beloved wife for 69 years of John (Jack) Hollway, and mother of Louise Kindree (Roger) of Caledon, ON; Edith Ehrhardt (Greg) of Norton, NB; Shirley Smith (Tom) of Saint John, NB; and Dr. Gordon Hollway (Denise) of Rothesay, NB. Dorothy and Jack are the proud grandparents of Jason (Jenn), Lisa (Mark), Melissa (James), Danial, Lara, and Jonathan, and great-grandparents of Brennan, and an eagerly anticipated great-grandson due in April. Dorothy was born in Toronto, grew up in Kenogami, QC, and graduated from the Ontario Ladies College, Whitby, ON. She met her husband, Jack, at the Air Force base in Bagotville, QC. Immediately following their wedding, Jack went off to fight overseas for the next four years. They moved to Saint John when the Rothesay Paper Mill opened. Dorothy was a stay-at-home Mum, superb home-maker and enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren. She and Jack enjoyed bird-watching and observing nature on trail walks and country drives. The Hollway family is very grateful to Drs. David Blagrave, Patrick Maloney and Julia Wildish, and most particularly for the care and compassion of Christine, Allison, Betty, Janis, and the rest of the staff of KV Extra-Mural. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to KV Extra-Mural which can be done through either Brenan’s Funeral Home or the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. As per her request, a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
