Obituary of Sterling Gregory Garnett

Sterling "Gregory" Garnett of Garnett Settlement passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on October 18, 1947, he was a son of the late Daniel Maines and Laura Freda (McArthur) Garnett. Gregory worked briefly at Saint John Shipbuilding and drove dump truck, and then drove School Bus until his health forced him to retire. He was the caretaker of the Garnett Settlement Cemetery, and had a unique and wonderful sense of humour. Being the youngest, he was the one everyone looked up to, and was loved by all. Gregory is survived by his children, Daniel "Danny" Garnett (Jennifer) of Garnett Settlement and Stacey Brideau (Joe) of Garnett Settlement; grandchildren Cameron and Colby Brideau and Mackenzie Garnett; brothers and sisters Murray "Tunny" Garnett (Marjorie) of Garnett Settlement, Dorothy "Sis" Thompson of Saint John, David "Dave" Garnett (Bernice) of Garnett Settlement, Larry "Sonny" Garnett (Bev) of Trenton, ON, Louise "Petney" Hewitt of Saint John, Patricia "Patsey" Belding (Garnet) of Chance Harbour, and Donna Drew (Dave) of Calgary, AB. Gregory was also very close to his several nieces and nephews, especially Linda and Kenny Ross of Garnett Settlement. Gregory was predeceased by a grandson, Devin Gregory Brideau; a sister, Blanche Flewelling; and a brother, Douglas Garnett. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM from the Garnett Settlement Christian Church. Interment will take place in the Garnett Settlement Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Online condolences and remembrances may be placed at www. Brenansfh.com.
