Obituary of Rawland Barton Gandy

Gandy, Rawland Barton … The death of Rawland Barton Gandy of Saint John, NB occurred on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John on June 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Rawland and Mary Gandy. Barton had been Manager of cafeterias in hospitals in Dartmouth, NS, then Truro, NS as a Field Secretary with the CNIB. He opened the District Office in Truro, in 1950 administering the CNIB services in over five counties. He returned to Saint John in 1955 and was employed at the Provincial Building (CNIB Services) then 25 years at the Customs Building before retiring in 1992. Bart was well known in greater Saint John for his excellent chair caning skills. He had a well organized work shop in the basement of his Wright Street residence and had a great love of making things for family and friends with his many power tools. Barton was a former member of St. Paul’s Valley Anglican Church. He is survived by his sister, Eileen Mersereau (Hilton, deceased) of Ottawa, ON; two nephews, Peter (Claudette) and Barry (Debbie) Mersereau; one niece, Marilyn Eileen Mersereau (Kristin); friend, Gordon McKim. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. On Thursday, November 12, 2009, Visitation at 10:30 a.m. will be followed by the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Rocmaura Foundation or the CNIB.
