Obituary of Wieslaw "Vic" Wojcik

Wieslaw Wojcik, known by friends as Vic or Wiesiek, passed away on Monday, June 08, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Poland in 1945, Wieslaw became a trained officer in the Polish Merchant Marines, subsequently spending 3 years on a submarine. He became enchanted by the high seas. His dream was to travel the oceans of the world on his sailboat. Wieslaw immigrated to Canada in 1969 and chose Saint John, New Brunswick as his home. Until his health began to fail, he was an active member of the community, volunteered his time to help new immigrants, and was a member of the Saint John Multicultural Association, at one time holding the position of President. A builder at heart with the soul of an artist, he built his home of stone and mortar, reminiscent of medieval Europe. A brilliant mind, he loved history and was always ready to discuss politics. He firmly believed that education is one of the most important tools for mankind to achieve success, tolerance, and peace. He will be sadly missed by his friends, his family in Poland, his wife Reine (Lapointe) Wojcik, his daughter Angélique Wojcik Simpson, and his son-in-law Kevin Thomas Simpson. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11am at his daughter’s home church, Main Street Baptist Church at 211 Main Street. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
