Obituary of Eugene Francis Murphy

Murphy, Eugene Francis – The death of Eugene “Murph” Francis Murphy of Saint John, NB, husband of Marie (Malone)(Riley) Murphy, occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Kennebec Manor. Born in Central Greenwich, NB on August 28, 1931, he was a son of the late George Harold and Georgina (Shannon) Murphy. Eugene had worked for 43 years at Dominion and Sobeys, as meat cutter and manager in Saint John and the North Shore, returning to Saint John in 1970. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council 8094, member of the Saint John Ambulance as Transport Sergeant for 10 years, and the 8th Princess Louise NB Hussars as a Sergeant for 5 years (Reserve). Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Terrie Murphy and Patti (Rick) Hachey, both of Saint John; two step-daughters, Beth (Patrick) O’Donnell of Norton, NB and Martina McCullum of Saint John; five step-sons, Peter (Bridget) Riley and Kevin (Eva) Riley, both of Willow Grove, NB, Raymond (Sally) Riley of Saint John, Frank (Wendy) Riley of Hampton, NB and John (Cindy) Riley of Quispamsis, NB; two brothers and two sisters, Walter (Dorothy) Murphy, Wayne Murphy, Betty (Frank) Logan and Lettie Murphy, all four of Saint John; one grandson, Jarrod Hachey; thirteen step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife, Gloria “Dola” Murphy, a son, Paul Gerard Murphy and two sisters, Vicky Murphy and Mary Davis. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with Knights of Columbus prayers on Tuesday at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, Clarendon St. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11 am. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
