Obituary of William Ronald Oliver

Oliver, William Ronald The death of William Ronald ‘Ron’ Oliver, husband of Ella Gertrude (Lawson) Oliver, occurred following a brief illness, with his family at his side, on October 1, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late William Charles and Lucie (MacDonald) Oliver. He served as Corporal with the Army Service Corps during WW II. He was the proprietor of Oliver’s Grocery Store, Saint John North, until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the RCL Branch 64, Past Chancellor of Saint John Lodge #30 Knights of Pythius, DOKK, Hibernia Lodge #3 F&AM, Eastern Star, Loyalist Temple #13 Pythian Sisters, member of the Nomads of Avrudaha, past-president of the NB Horse Shoe Players Association and a member of Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club (Maritime Masters Curling Championship Team 1997) . Besides his wife he is survived by his son William (Christine) of Kiersteadville, NB, daughters Elizabeth (Betty) Goguen (Alderic) of Moncton, Rosemary Oliver of Saint John, brother Murray of Sussex, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Roy, Greg and Ralph and sisters Shirley Hamilton, Audrey Taylor and Ernestine (Shaw) Carter. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 2:15 pm from Brenans Chapel. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
