Obituary of Martha Biden Butland

BUTLAND, Martha ? We sadly announce the sudden passing of our mother, Martha (Thorburn) Butland, wife of the late Edgar Butland (d. August 29, 1983), of the Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, NB on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at her residence. Born in Stanley, NB in 1916, she was the daughter of the late Fraser and Maggie (Best) Thorburn. Martha was a long time member of St. James Anglican Church, Loch Lomond Rd. She volunteered many years in the villa and spent her summers at the beloved family cottage in Cambridge Narrows, NB. As a devoted, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she most enjoyed spending her time with her family. Survived by a son, David and his wife, Arlene of the Cambridge-Narrows; a daughter, Alda and her husband, Dr. Hani El-Gabalawy of Winnipeg, Manitoba; a brother, Harry Thorburn (Maxine) of BC; sisters, Jessie MacFarlane of Burlinglon, ON, Gertrude Glancy of Seattle, Washington; sisters-in-law, Ethel, Eva and Edith; grandchildren, Patricia Graham, Pamela (Richard) Deering, Nadia El-Gabalawy, Renee El-Gabalawy and Adam El-Gabalawy; one great-grandson, Christian Deering; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Douglas, Howard, William and Stanley. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 and following cremation a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 1:30 pm from Loch Lomond Villa Chapel, 185 Loch Lomond Rd., Saint John. Interment will take place at a later date in the Cambridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Remembrance may be made to the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
