Obituary of John J. Connell
It is with deep sorrow and regret that his family announce the death of Mr. John J. (Jack) Connell, age 68, of 12 Windermere Court, Rothesay, formerly of Kennebecasis Park, which occurred unexpectedly Friday morning, November 1, 2002 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jack was the husband of M. Yvonne (Chiasson) Connell. Born in Saint John, May 26, 1934, Jack was the only son of the late William J. and M. Eileen (Connelly) Connell. He was a graduate of St. Vincent's Boys School, and studied accounting in Saint John. Jack overcame many physical adversities in his life to achieve his many accomplishments. In his early years, he was employed by Hudson McMackin, and then by St. Joseph's Hospital for 27 years, retiring in 1993, as Assistant Administrator. Jack was very well liked and respected by the staff of St. Joe's. His fairness was known by all. Jack was very dedicated to quality health care in Saint John and served on many boards and committees during his career and in his retirement. He served on the boards of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, the Saint John School of Nursing, Fundy Linen, Saint John United Way, New Brunswick Arthritis Society, as well as with the Sister's of Charity. Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his four daughters, Jacqueline Connell-Vail (Geoffrey), Karen Jones (Derek), both of Saint John, Colleen Flathers (Wayne) of Nanaimo, BC, and Jennifer Connell at home. Jack was a loving grandfather and will be sadly missed by his ten grandchildren, Alexandre, Emilie, Andrew, and Elias Vail, Colin and Brendan Jones, Laura, Sarah, and Amanda Reynhoudt, and Emily Flathers. The children gave him great joy. Jack is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Jean Cromwell (Noel) of Saint John, and Patricia Lockhart (David) of Hampton, his aunt, Jean Connolly of Saint John, five nephews, one niece, and several cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Connell in 1974. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424, with visitation on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 4, 2002 at 12:00 Noon from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, NB. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. A Legion of Mary service will be conducted by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish on Sunday at 1:45 PM at the funeral home. www.brenansfh.com
