Obituary of R. Roy Wills

It is with great sadness the family of Dr. Roy Wills, age 86, announces his passing on August 2, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Saint John on September 25, 1927 and was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Isabelle (Cummings) and his parents, Curtis and Clara (Camick) Wills. He was a graduate of Saint John High School, UNB Fredericton and Dalhousie University Medical School. Beginning in 1953 he served five years in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps as a Captain, serving in Germany and Calgary. He opened his family practice in Lancaster Medical Center in 1958. After fifty years of service to many generations of patients, he retired in 2003. Roy spent many happy years with Isabelle and his family at their camp at Island Lake enjoying fishing, hunting and cutting wood. He was also an avid stamp collector for many years. One of his greatest accomplishments was his love of nature and family that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his children, David of Saint John, Ann (Allan) Barteaux of Hampton, Susan of Saint John and Mary (Tony) Cosman of Grand Bay-Westfield; seven grandchildren, Michael (Janette) and Matthew (Terri) Wills, Stephen (Nadine) and Tim (Karen) Barteaux, Jessica, Alyson, Abigail (Caleb) Cosman; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Liam Wills; two beloved sisters Mardi (Les) Bartlett of Fredericton and Marilyn (Walter) Patterson of Ottawa; brothers-in-law Allan and Russel (Hazel) Cummings; sisters-in-law Jean and Ruby Cummings; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Donald; father and mother-in-law, Ivan and Dora Cummings; brothers-in-law Albert and Raymond Cummings; sisters-in-law Mary and Wilma Cummings. The family would especially like to thank his special caregiver and "best friend" of four years, Susan Smith. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, 634-7425 with visiting on Tuesday, August 5 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday, August 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11 am from St. Mark’s United Church, 50 Dexter Drive.
