Obituary of Patricia Jean Hawkins

The death of Patricia Hawkins of Saint John occurred on Friday, January 31, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on February 24,1944, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Jean (Shannon) Hawkins. Prior to her retirement, Pat was employed as an elementary school teacher at St. John the Baptist School, a career she truly loved. Pat always took great pride in her students and often followed their progress over the years. She was well respected and loved throughout the education system. Pat was an extremely active volunteer throughout the Saint John area and held various volunteer positions within the Liberal Association. She often acted as a mentor to many premiers, MLAs, party organizers and other volunteers. Her contributions to the party were numerous and will be missed. She was quiet by nature; however, she spoke her mind on issues of importance to her. She was kind, gentle and truly a woman who showed great compassion. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Pat is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Wickens(Norman) of Saint John; nephew Joseph Wickens(Anne); grand nephew, Benjamin and grand niece, Rachel. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
