Obituary of Hilda Frances Mason

Mason, Hilda Frances – Surrounded by her family the death of Hilda Mason, wife of Alan "Gene" Mason occurred at the Rocmaura Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. She was born on October 8, 1925 in Saint John to the late Ward and Margaret (Kendall) Hamm. Hilda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she devoted her life to her family. She was a former member of South Bay United Church and the South Bay UCW and attended St. Mark’s United Church. Hilda was a member of the South Bay Craft Group; enjoyed traveling with her daughters and spending time at the camp in Pocologan, where she tended everyone’s flowers. She was always ready for long drives, ATVing with her husband, Gene, a shopping trip and Tuesday’s at the Coffee Mill. Hilda biggest joy was having family around. Besides, Gene her husband of over 69 years, she is survived by her sons: Butch (Dianne) and Michael (Charlotte) both of Saint John; daughters: Sandra Thorne, Donna Henderson (Frank), Myra Lozier (Frank), Lorna Whipple (Larry) and Wanda Woodcock (Eddie) all of Saint John; sister-in-law, Madeline Hamm; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her parents; son-in-law, David Thorne; brothers: Raymond and Howard Hamm and sister, Marie Warr. A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Rocmaura Nursing home, Terrace Court for the kindness and support during this difficult time. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John with visiting on Friday from 2:00 – 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Mark’s United Church, 50 Dexter Drive on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Rocmaura Foundation or St. Mark’s United Church would be appreciated by the family.
