Obituary of C. Geoffrey W. Foss

Charles Geoffrey Weston Foss, age 61, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2013 after a short illness. Born in Saint John, NB on March 3, 1952, Geoff was the eldest son of Charles and Jean (Weston) Foss, who predeceased him. A loving father, grandfather (Geezie), brother, uncle and friend, Geoff was known to all as a kind soul with a generous heart; always willing to help those in need. Geoff received a mechanic’s license from NBCC and later graduated from UNB with a B.Ed. He taught at KVHS and MacDonald Consolidated schools. Geoff worked and played as a mechanic extraordinaire and jack of all trades; operating his own garage for twenty years and most recently being employed with the Department of Transportation at the Hampton Bus Garage. Geoff was a member of the Corinthian Lodge 13, secretary of CUPE 1190, and a great resource Boy Scout. Geoff’s interests were many and varied, from fixing anything mechanical that wouldn’t work quite right, to finding solutions to the world’s problems, as well as those nearer at hand. His genius was in problem solving and he loved to work out a way to do what seemed impossible. He was not a traveller…home was always best…and Hampton perhaps his favourite place on earth, next to West Saint John where he grew up. Geoff was always reading, from Harlequin romances to non-fiction accounts of the war, with a strong interest in anything military. But, of all things, Geoff will be best remembered for his love of people and his wanting to always be around others; to help, to argue, to befriend, to teach, to discuss, to be with, to work beside, to laugh with and to plan the next adventure or rescue operation. Geoff’s survived by his children; Jeremy (Kristina Birch) of Hampton, Caitlyn of Burton and their mother Barbara; his siblings: Joey Baird, of Pocologan, Peter Foss(Lynn) of Saint John, and Marianne Nielsen (Erik), of Aldergrove B.C.; grandson Preston Drew Foss, and was affectionately known as Uncle Beastie to 13 nieces and nephews: Heather McBriarty (John),Jennifer Allaby (Drew), Alexandra Allen (Kris), Lt. Joshua Foss, Laura Foss(Mathew Molsberry), John Nielsen, Tim Nielsen, Lindsay Currie (John) , Jennifer Goss(Andrew), Meaghan Adams (Blake), Derek Goss, Christie Bigney (Clifford), Nicki Hamburg (Andrew) and Tim Goss; 11 first cousins from Victoria, B.C. to Johannesburg, South Africa, and many other cousins, grand nieces and nephews. Many thanks and appreciation goes to staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Extra-Mural Staff and Geoff’s many wonderful friends who helped with his care and his chores while he was ill. Special thanks to his friend Andrea for nursing him at home. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, (634-7425) with visiting on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 7-9 and Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm .
