Obituary of John Garfield Sweet

John Garfield "Jack" Sweet of Saint John, husband of the late Lois Marie (Goldie) Sweet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jack was born in Saint John West on January 8, 1928, and worked at the winter port, the City of Saint John, and retired from the Saint John Regional Hospital where he worked in Environmental Services. Jack was a member of Branch 69 of the Royal Canadian Legion, as well as a Parishioner of St. Rose de Lima Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, and watching old war movies, and was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins. Jack enjoyed company, and liked a good debate with whoever would take him on. Jack is survived by his six children: Sharon Sweet (Phil Moore) of Hampstead, Ferne Lockhart (Gordon) of Martinon, Donna Nash (Daniel) of Hoyt, Jacqueline Whittaker of Wirral, William "Billy" Sweet of Saint John, and Lorraine Robbins (Howard) of Lubec, Maine; grandchildren, Mary Harmon (Hugh), Robbie Lockhart (Sonya), Paula Lockhart (Kevin), Addison Sweet (Kara), Bill Whittaker (Misty), Nathan Nash, Tanya Nash, Tishla Cruickshank (Daniel), Kellie Delaney (Aaron), Ashley Dunbar (Chris), Sheelagh Swyers (Matt), Daniel Sweet, and Stephen Hall; 15 great-grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters-in-law Patricia Johnson (Bernard), Linda Hughes, and Lois Goldie; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife, Jack was predeceased by a son-in-law, Addison Whittaker; and a step grandson, Jacob Robbins. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM from St. Rose de Lima Church. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
