Obituary of M. Olive Murphy

Mary Olive Murphy of Saint John passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a short illness. Born at Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Clara (Curran) Murphy. Olive was a graduate of Saint Vincent’s High School. After retiring from the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1986, she served as a volunteer member of the Pastoral Care Team at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was a member of St. Pius X Parish, and a former member of St. Peter’s Parish, where she was active with the Catholic Women’s League. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. Olive was a charter member of the Wednesday night Bridge Club which began in 1945. Olive is survived by her sister, Sr. Gertrude Murphy of the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, and many close friends with whom she kept in constant touch. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
