Obituary of F. Roland Hill

Roly passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 22,2010. Roly was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a loyal friend. Roly is survived by his wife, Anne, and his children, Norrie and Barb, John and Barb, Stephen and Ken; his stepchildren, Allyson and Geoff, Andrea and Tracy, Duncan and Anita, his grandchildren, Blake and Lindsay, Jamie and Nicole, Jennifer and Adarsh, Katie, Colin, and Sarah; his step-grandchildren, Cailey, Thomas, Tara, Tessa, Lily, Noah, Joseph, and Maria; and his great-granddaughter, Corinne. Music was always a big part of Roly’s life, he was one of the first members of the Carridon Choir and The Friends of Music, also a member of The Saint John Choral Society, Cantus, St. David’s United Church Choir, Symphony Choir, and Colla Voce. Roly played the clarinet in the Saint John High School Orchestra, the Carleton Coronet Band, the Saint John Fusiliers Band, the Royal N.B. Regiment Band, and the St. Mary’s Band. Roly loved to eat at the Swiss Chalet and the Route 1 Restaurant. He loved sports and was a New Brunswick Masters Tennis Champion, playing tennis and badminton through six decades - right up until the end. Roly was also a proud matador, tree-feller, hole-digger, gardener, and avid winner at cards. Roly worked for the meteorological service, C.N. Wilson, and retired from Irving Paper as statistician. Roly will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues. The family is grateful for the exceptional care received at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Funeral Service will take place at St. David’s United Church in Rothesay on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 10 am. Interment will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
