Obituary of Sister Mary B. Hurley

HURLEY-the death of Sister Mary B. Hurley (Sr. M. Assunta) of Ruth Ross Residence occurred at her residence on Friday, January 9, 2009. Sister was born in Semiwagon Ridge, N.B., a daughter of the late Daniel and Clara (Maher) Hurley. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on March 25, 1935. Sister served over twenty years in Vancouver as a Homemaker at Sacred Heart Convent, Our Lady of Mercy Home, and Immaculate Heart Convent. On her return to Saint John she assisted the sick and infirm at St. Vincent's Convent and the Mater Misericordiae Home. She also served at Marycrest and St. Joseph's Convents. While living at St. Pius X Convent, Sister Hurley was involved in Parish Ministry. She was predeceased by four brothers, Martin, John, James and Daniel Hurley; and one sister, Sister Phoebe Hurley, S.C.I.C. She is survived by four brothers, Joseph Hurley of Gores Landing, Ont., Anthony Hurley of Georgetown, Ont., Peter Hurley of Deep River, Ont., and Colonel Raymond Hurley of Gloucester, Ont.; three sisters, Miss Clarissa Hurley of Saint John; Mrs. Alice (Cliff) Billington of Toronto, and Mrs. Stella Renneberg of Kamloops, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday mooring at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock.
