Obituary of Roland E. Furlong

FURLONG-the death of Roland E. Furlong of East Saint John, husband of Theresa (Lenihan) Furlong, occurred at his residence on Saturday, October 25, 2008. Roland was born in Renous, N.B., a son of the late LeRoy and Marion (Donovan) Furlong, and had resided the greater part of his life in Saint John. He had been employed as a pipefitter and welder at the Dry Dock and was a member of Local 213 until his retirement a number of years ago. He enjoyed cooking and was an avid fan of NASCAR and country and western music. His life was centered around his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, William (Gail), Roland (Laurie), Robert (Karen), and James (Caroline), all of Saint John; one daughter, Cheryl Furlong of Saint John; three brothers, Ronald (Valerie) and LeRoy (Linda) both of Quispamsis, and Wayne (Christine) of Rothesay; seven grandchildren, Shamus, Alana, Sarah, Nick, Emma, Leland, and Dana; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday morning at 12:05 Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Golden Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
