Obituary of Leona Holburn

HOLBURN-the death of Leona "Babe" Holburn, widow of Murray Holburn, occurred at Loch Lomond Villa on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Mrs. Holburn was born in Halifax, a daughter of the late Zepher and Mary (O'Brien) LaRiviere and had resided the greater part of her life in Saint John. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Girls High School and Vocational Business School and had been employed with Sears Credit Dept. for many years until her retirement in 1983. She was a founding member of St. Pius X Parish. She was very active in the Liberal Party; St. Pius X Catholic Women's League; and St. Vincent's Alumnae Association. Leona enjoyed the outdoor life, especially skiing, swimming, skating, walking, and camping. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Agnes Keating and Margaret O'Connell. She is survived by one son, Dr. Murray P. (Joanne) Holburn of Saint John; three daughters, Maureen Finnigan (Joseph), Leona Calvin (Ross), and Patricia Johnston (Alf), all of Saint John; ten grandchildren, Mark, Kevin, and Sean Finnigan; Michael Calvin; Lee MacLean; Tom Watts; Susan Hendra; and Jennifer, Scott, and Jake Holburn; ten great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ethan, and Gabrielle Finnigan; Michael and Mathew MacLean; Kiernan, Laughlan, and Sorcha Watts; and Luca and Kolya Hendra. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church on Friday morning at eleven o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
