Obituary of Joseph Bapst Cronin

CRONIN-Joseph Bapst Cronin passed away peacefully at his home in Tennant's Cove, N.B. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, after a battle with cancer at the age of 73. Greatly missed by his wife Jeannie (Quick) of 22 years, along with his children from his first marriage, Cathy McDonah (Don), Geoffrey (Kym), Mary Beth and Moira Dodds (Dom), and his eight grandchildren, Liam, Caitlin, and Mollie McDonah, Madeline and Jared Dodds, and Ainsley, Connor, and Patrick Cronin. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Janet) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Raymund J. Cronin, his mother, Beatrice (McGuiggan), and recently by his sister, Beth Haggerty (Eddie). Bapst was born in Saint John and spent all his life in New Brunswick. He was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School. Upon graduation he joined his father in the family business, R. J. Cronin Insurance before continuing his career at N.B. Power. He was the Treasurer and Secretary for the Saint John Figure Skating Club for many years and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. In his later years he rediscovered his love for the game of golf and spent many days at his home course, Midland Meadows, near his home in Tennant's Cove. Following cremation, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday morning at twelve o'clock. There will be a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada would be appreciate.
