Obituary of Anne Gertrude Dempster

DEMPSTER-Anne Gertrude Dempster, widow of George Adrian Dempster, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 27, 2008, surrounded by her family. Anne was born in Saint John in 1915, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Duffy) Beamish. Although Anne was quiet and reserved, she loved to speak to fellow church members and she drew incredible courage and strength from her faith. She was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Women's League for 65 years and had been an Auxillary Member of the Legion of Mary. She was predeceased by her son, Arthur J. F. "Art" Dempster; her son-in-law, Malcolm Burchill; three sisters, Edith Smith, Theresa Allaby, and Margaret Walsh; and two brothers, William and Raymond Beamish. She is survived by one son, William of Saint John; three daughters, Marie Burchill of Saint John, Theresa "Betty" Shorey (Terry) of Dieppe, and Susan C. Dempster of Vancouver; one sister, Elizabeth "Libbie" Abbott of Rothesay; nine grandchildren, Patrick (Karen), Christopher (Kelly), and Jeffrey(Carrie) Burchill, Katherine Maber (Jim), Heather McDonald, Robin Hebert (Carla), Susan McIntyre (Mark), Theresa Mullett (Ian), and Jennifer Shorey; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Stella Maris Church on Wednesday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
