Obituary of Ida Elizabeth Halford

Halford, Ida Elizabeth "Betty" –Ida Elizabeth "Betty" Halford of Rothesay, NB, wife of the late Dr. Ernest D. Halford, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was a daughter of the late Fraser and Ida (Boies) Saunders. A devoted wife and caring mother, she lived a life of joy and humour and took great pride in her family. Mom was always there for us. For several years Betty enjoyed working in the St. George area as a receptionist for her husband and she frequently commented what wonderful people they are. She was a gifted musician and in her retirement years Betty took up the fiddle and joined the Park Avenue Fiddlers, which was high-lighted by a performance with the group in Ottawa at the Canada Day Celebrations and at the Imperial Theatre. Her "Jam" sessions with the girls, Irma and Freda were treasured and our family especially thanks them for their time spent with Mom. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Peter F Halford (Judy) and Dr. Brent F. Halford, both of Saint John West and Ronald Halford (Beth) of Winnipeg, MB; one daughter, Kathy Peters (Walter) of Rothesay, NB; one brother, Howard Saunders of Fredericton; two sisters-in-law, Nora Saunders and Hazel Fulton, both of Saint John; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, among them Burton Green, with whom she especially enjoyed many telephone calls and visits. Besides her husband, Ernest, she was predeceased by two sisters, Beulah and Mary; and one brother, Frank. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (506) 634-7425. There will not be any visiting at the request of the family, however friends are welcome to attend the funeral service which will be held from Bay View Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 2:30 pm. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to any charity of choice. Special thanks to Dr. David Blagrave for his care over the years. www.bayviewfh.com
