Obituary of Doris Eileen Campbell

The death of Doris Eileen Campbell of Saint John West, NB, wife of the late R. Calvin Campbell, occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Auburn, NS on February 6, 1922 she was a daughter of the late Elwood and Thelma (Ross) Gidney. Doris was secretary of the Seaside Lawn Bowling Club, volunteered with the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home Inc., a member of its Auxiliary and a member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary. At St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church she had been treasurer, a member of the Missionary Society, a member of the Board of Managers, and an elder on the Church Session. She had been the first woman moderator of the Saint John Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church and was president of the Ladies International Church Council for Saint John. She was a member of the RCL Branch # 64 and the Ladies Auxiliary and was recipient of the Legion's prestigious Palm Leaf (MSA) Award. She is survived by her five children, Rod Campbell (Pam), Bruce Campbell, Debbie McLaggan (Wayne), Bill Campbell (Barb) and Dorothy Francis (Ross); twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell (Peter), Andrew Campbell, Michael Bacon (Marla), Sarah Bacon Shean (Kirk), Geoffrey MacDonald (Kristia), Peter MacDonald (Sarah), Craig MacDonald, Angela McCaffrey, Sarah Campbell (Chris), John McLaggan (Lisa), Ross Campbell (Joanah), Lynn Campbell and Michael Francis; five great-grandchildren, Gabe Campbell, Zoe Campbell, Calvin McCaffrey, Emma McCaffrey and Eliana MacDonald; one sister, Mary Butler; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband in 1975; a daughter, Calva MacDonald; son-in-law, Larry MacDonald and a sister, Marjorie Pierce. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (506) 634-7425 with visiting on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from Grace Presbyterian Church, Coburg St., Saint John on Wednesday at 10 am. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances made to Grace Presbyterian Church Memorial Window Restoration Fund would be appreciated by the family.
