Obituary of John Theodore Reid

Reid, John Theodore … The death of John Reid of Saint John, NB, husband of Frances "Fran" (McIntyre) Reid, occurred on Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Upham, Kings Co, NB on June 21, 1923, he was the son of the late Theodore and Bessie (Kirkpatrick) Reid. John began his 44 year career at NB Tel as a messenger in 1940 and held many positions, including that of District Manager in Woodstock from 1949-1954. He retired from NB Tel in 1984 holding the position of Secretary Treasurer. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces in WWII from 1940-1945. John was a member of many organizations, Provincial President of Boy Scouts, Provincial President of the Cancer Society, President of Lancaster Golden K, President of Lancaster Kiwanis and Board of Directors for Centracare Hospital; receiving the Silver Acorn Award from Scouts for his volunteer work and Merit Certificate from the Cancer Society. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran; two sons, David Reid and his partner Pauline of Rothesay, NB and Robert (Anne) Reid of Saint John; one daughter, Patricia (David) Howe of Grand Bay … Westfield: four grandchildren, Katherine Marti, Mark, Jessica and Jonathan Reid; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Betty Swanton. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (506) 634-7425. At the request of the family there will not be any visiting at the funeral home. A celebration of John's life will be held from The Church of the Good Shepherd, Saint John West on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 2 pm. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or any charity of choice.
