Obituary of Robert Barr

The death of Bobby Barr of Saint John occurred on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born October 4, 1919 in East Kilbride, Scotland, he had been a resident and citizen of Canada for 45 years. A World War II Veteran, he served first in the Cameronians Regiment in the First Burma Campaign, and later in the Royal Air Force as a pilot in Fighter Recconnaissance. Bobby was a head golf club professional, having worked at clubs in Kenya, England, Newfoundland, and most recently at the Westfield Golf & Country Club for 26 years. He retired in 1992 as a CPGA life member. He carried on his passion for golf in his retirement at the Welsford Golf Course. Bobby is survived by his wife, Catherine (Irene); his daughter, Fiona Higgins and her husband Brian of Saint John; his son, Alastair Barr and his wife Clare of Grand Bay-Westfield; his two grandchildren, Stephen and Meaghan Higgins; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his sister, Rae. At Bobby's request there will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Church of the Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West. Following the service, a reception will be held at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road (634-7425), in whose care the funeral arrangements are made. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
