Obituary of Dorothy Purcell

The death of Dot Purcell, of the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home, wife of Charles Purcell, occurred on March 24, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John to the late Pat and Florence (Garnett) Kennedy. Dot was a past president of Golden Harps Seniors, and a member of the Lancaster Diamonds. She was inducted into the Saint John Hall of Fame for speed skating. Dot spent 45 years in couples skating, and was also a member of the Harbour Station Skating Club. Besides her husband she is survived by her son, Patrick (Bernice) of Grand Bay; daughter Carolyn (Alvin) Leger of Grand Bay; four grandchildren, Angela, and Marc Leger, Jillian, and Jaclyn Purcell and several nieces and nephews. Dot was predeceased by her brother David Kennedy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 541 Milford Road on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10 am. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
