Obituary of Barbara Anita Mayes

The death of Barbara Anita Mayes of Saint John West, occurred on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Bangor, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Dallas (Voter) Barnes. Barbara taught school in Saint John, District # 8 (formerly District # 20), for many years, before her retirement. She volunteered with the Elizabeth Fry Society, the Parkinson Foundation of Canada, the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home and was a longtime member of the University Women's Club. She is survived by her children, Karen MacNeill of Airdrie, AB, Kirk Mayes of Saint John and Jane Smith (Mike) of Saint John, six grandchildren, Kurt, Stephen, Heidi-Jane, Shannon, Jordan and Shaylee and four great-grandchildren. At Barbara's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Remembrances to the Elizabeth Fry Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
