Obituary of Rev.John Jarvie
The death of Rev. John Jarvie of the Carleton Kirk Lodge, formerly of Valleyview Crescent, Greendale, Saint John West, husband of Ella (Hasson) Jarvie, occurred on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford, NS, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (MacLean) Jarvie. Rev. Jarvie was ordained in 1937 and served congregations in Cape North, Strathalorne, Hantsport and Dominion in Nova Scotia, Summerside, PEI and St. Andrews, NB, as well as supervising Saint John's United Church Mission Centre. He retired from the ministry in 1981 and remained active as a supply minister in Saint John area churches as well as in the Masonic Order, Kiwanis, the VON and the Parkinson Foundation, in addition to several other church and community organizations. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, John (Anne) of Rothesay, one daughter, Peggy Jarvie (Robert Johnson) of Waterloo, ON and three grandchildren, John and Elizabeth Jarvie and Maureen Johnson. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie (Hollett) Jarvie in 1981. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at St. Mark's United Church, Dexter Drive, Saint John West, on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, NS, at a later date. Remembrances to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or the Project Fund of the Saint John Presbytery, would be appreciated.
